Of je nu meer ervaring zoekt, of een nieuwe hobby wil starten, kan je bij mij (Celine Joanna De Cuyper) terecht om zangles volgen. Zelf ben ik gediplomeerd master in de jazz zang & muziekeducatie aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium Gent, en geef al sinds jaar en dag les aan jongeren van 6 tot 75, beginners tot gevorderden – ik ben dus een ervaren docente!

Opgroeiend in een muzikaal gezin en in mijn opleiding kwam ik in aanmerking met alle kanten van het muzikantenleven: het verfijnen van jouw stemkleur, het spelen van andere instrumenten en het begeleiden, het schrijven van songs, studiowerk, optreden & présence, interpretatie van songs, arrangementen maken, … Eveneens is het mogelijk op les te komen om te leren over hoe je je spreekstem beter kan gebruiken.

Samen werken we op je eigen tempo aan stemtechniek, interpretatie, indien jazz ook aan improvisatie en harmonie. We kiezen samen nummers die je wilt zingen,
of ooit wilt kunnen zingen, en werken aan wat je eigen interesse en motivatie vereist. Je krijgt opnames van oefeningen in e-mail zodat je thuis gemakkelijk kan oefenen. In mijn opleiding en geschiedenis kwam ik in aanraking met een breed veld van muzikale genres: alles kan! (ook musical & beginners klassieke zang zijn zeker welkom!)

Mogelijke lessen zijn:
– Kleuterzang (vanaf 6 jaar)
– Pop/Jazz/… zang
– Ritmeklas
– Improvisatie
– Muziektheorie (beginselen notenleer tot gevorderde harmonie)
– Songwriting
– Repetitie met pianobegeleiding
– Coaching stem, présence, houding
– Stemtechniek spraak

Ook mensen die zangles willen doen met oog op persoonlijke ontwikkeling, bijvoorbeeld om zelfzekerder in hun schoenen te staan of hun verlegenheid te overwinnen, zijn bij mij aan het juiste adres.

Bij het afronden van een lessenreeks is het mogelijk een semiprofessionele opname te maken, zodat u deze kan delen met vrienden en familie.

The Sea & The City

Ik weet het, ik weet het, ik post amper nog wat hier. Dat is omdat ik druk bezig ben met muziek! Mijn passie, mijn geliefde, mijn toeverlaat, mijn alles, woorden schieten hier te kort. Af en toe komt er eens iets op de proppen om een nieuw muzikaal avontuur te beginnen, en héél erg zelden komt de kans langs om dat dan tezamen met een even door muziek bezielde persoon te mogen presenteren. U-niek, on-mis-baar, klas-se. Dit jaar gooide ik al mijn vooraf gevormde beelden van jazz en “wat ik doe” als muzikant overboord en ging ik gewoon voor de rauwste inspiratie, recht uit mijn tienerjaren; denk Pixies, Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush, Massive Attack, …

Want wat ik u wel kan bijleren met deze blogpost is: zit het even tegen, heb je writer’s block of ben je vergeten waarom je eigenlijk doet wat je doet? Go back, way back when. Naar waar alle wegen nog open voor u lagen en die ene weg zo helder, zo duidelijk en zo veel aantrekkelijker was dan alle andere.

MIEKE VERMIST!!

Beste lezer,

Misschien was u op zoek naar iets heel anders, iets over fotografie, vintage, muziek of over zelf kleren maken. Maar laat ik u even storen met iets dat 1000x belangrijker is.

Mieke is verdwenen na een inbraak in de nacht van 24/10 op 25/10. Ze droeg een roze halsbandje met een kokertje waar haar naam op staat. Het is een klein van bouw gesteriliseerde kattin. Ze doet veel mensen denken aan Puss in Boots omdat ze korte pootjes, een korte staart, een klein neusje en grote ogen heeft. Mieke wordt enorm gemist, kijk dus zeker eens rond. Als je in de buurt woont, kijk eens in uw garage/kelder/tuin, wie weet zit ze ergens vast. Of heeft iemand met een goed hart haar binnen genomen maar weet die persoon er niet van – laat die persoon, of die ene kattenvriend in de buurt het weten!

How I scanned my 120 negatives

Good morning there! I must say, i feel pretty tired. That’s because yesterday, i wasted almost 3 hours trying to figure out a way to scan my 120 negatives, that don’t fit my flatbed scanner. First I found a DIY for creating a backlight with some silver cardstock: didn’t work. Then i tried putting a white paper or the white area of the flatbed scanner itself over the negatives with a lamp behind it. Worked a little better, but the colors were totally off. I found i got the best result taking a picture of the negatives while holding them up to the sky, which made me get the idea to use my scanner outside while open, with the sky as a background. And yes, it did give the best results (and then i discovered the bad state the lab left my negatives in…). After scanning it as a normal picture, I inverted the colors in Gimp and then “equalized” the colors, and it turned out pretty okay. The darker pictures didn’t come out well at all, so i’ll eventually have the roll scanned at a (better) lab anyways. Also, it’s a nice way to compare quality and colors of both methods. It was a nice experiment, and if you are more stubborn than I am and don’t want to spend another overpriced penny at photo labs, maybe this is something for you!

Newcomers 2013

2013 did not bring any calm to my everlasting need to discover old camera’s. I did put a limit to my cravings and decided not to buy more than 3 camera’s this year. Good decision. So, we’re halfway the year, and I’m at 3! Here’s some info on the new members of my collection:

The first one i decided to buy was the Konica c35 EF. I actually bought the same camera in the slightly older model last year, but unfortunately the flash wasn’t functional, which was one of the reasons for buying it. It’s the first compact camera with an automatic flash, so the flash should work, is what I thought! So, i found this very well taken care of gem online, and bought it for €15! It’s almost mint condition and no corrosion whatsoever in the battery department. If your camera does have some corrosion, you can clean it using Q-tips and white vinegar. But i would advice against buying one that has a lot of corrosion that has already turned dark or damaged the contacts. There’s also a cell battery compartment for the operation of the camera itself. You can choose to operate the camera without, since it isn’t completely automatic, but then again… that’s not what the camera was made for. They don’t make the mercury cell batteries anymore that it needs to operate pseudo-automatically, which is a great thing for the environment, and you can find a good replacement wherever you can find hearing aid batteries. A 1.3 or 1.4 volt zinc battery should be fine according to this Flickr thread.

This camera used to be one of Warhol’s favorites! There are plenty of pictures of him at events clutching the Konica c35 EF. In fact, it is said he liked it so much, he had 2. I’ll just have to wait and see the results of this camera to decide if i agree!

The second newcomer is this lovely Kodak Duaflex II. It’s a pseudo-TLR which means you have a large viewfinder on top, but actually it’s a simple point-and-shoot camera. The shutter speed is estimated around 1/30 or 1/40, as it is for most oldtimers like this. The camera was produced in the first half of the fifties, and is made from bakelite and metal, I don’t really know. What i do know is that most of these camera’s need a good cleaning before use, and thus I took this baby apart and cleaned it carefully with a dust cloth and some water (i didn’t use anything else since i didn’t find it necessary to use products. If you do, please don’t use any on the mirror. There’s a good chance that you might damage it. I found the disassembling pretty self-explanatory; some screws on top, some screws on the bottom and the rest didn’t have screws. Some models have some screws on the front but with this model, the front panel could be opened up completely as you can see below. Easy does it!

Now it is pretty clean, except for the mirror that was pretty damaged. I put in some film after trimming a 120 film of lomography (I would strongly advise against this brand since in the pack I bought to try it, one film ripped and now this film doesn’t have all his numbers printed… Thanks a lot ). Some people respool the film onto a 620 spool, but I found it easier to trim the edges of the 120 spool and file it to the same width as a 620. You can find a mod here.

And last but not least I got to buy the rare but cute Ansco Panda camera. It’s also a 620 pseudo-TLR, point-and-shoot camera with an estimated shutter speed of 1/30 or 1/40. It could also use a cleaning, but since it’s a bakelite/plastic camera, it has no screws so we’ll have to make do with a nice foggy effect on the pictures, like we’re seeing today through the era of yesterday. It’s a pretty straightforward camera so I can’t tell you many exciting stories about it (yet?), but it’s not easy to come by these camera’s these days so I’m totally excited and happy to have one of them in my possession, with bag and everything. Oh yes, I got all 3 camera’s in their original camera cases. Score!

Auguste (au bout de la nuit)

Maak kennis met Jens, Jonas & de 2 Celinen van Auguste au bout de la nuit; een nieuwe band ontstaan op het conservatorium van Gent. 

Auguste haalt inspiratie bij artiesten als Christian Scott, Maria Neckam, Jozef Dumoulin, maar ook uit de popwereld, en tevens klassieke componisten als Messiaen en Ligeti kunnen ze smaken. Auguste brengt een mix van eigen composities, eigen-aardige interpretaties van zowel jazz nummers (Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, …) als pop-nummers (Thom Yorke, Kate  Bush, …), afgewisseld met eens een vrije improvisatie.

La Concrete

Gisteren was een speciale dag. EIN-DE-LIJK zette ik mij eens met een serieuze leergierigheid aan mijn laptop en begon het internet af te zoeken naar tips & tricks om met Garageband op te nemen. Dat duurde welgeteld 20 minuten want dan had ik al lang gevonden hoe ik precies mijn mixer moet aansluiten op mijn laptop en mijn creative juices begonnen spontaan te vloeien van contentement. Het resultaat: 2 geïmproviseerde soundscapes (met foutjes enal!) van niet al te schaamtelijke kwaliteit.

Voor alle duidelijkheid: La Concrete is de naam van mijn solo project. Niks instrumenten, wie heeft dat nodig, stem is méér dan voldoende zeker indien aangevuld met wat coole effectpedalen! Maar laat ik u niet langer in spanning houden, luister maar!

Meer van dats volgt snel!

en heb heel veel spijt dat ik deze blog niet actief hield over de voorbije uhmm 6 maanden! Maar nee, sorry, ik heb geen spijt. Ik heb een leven, en ik hou daar in het algemeen meer van dan van bloggen, net zoals jullie! Maar dat betekent niet dat ik de liefde, schoonheid en muziek die in onze levens bloeien niet wil delen met jullie, naamloze, gezichtloze wezens! En om mijn gebrek aan delen goed te maken schenk ik jullie het genot te luisteren naar pareltjes van muziek! Enjoy!

What do you do when…

… you’re an artist with a vision and a background in civil engineering who learns about a beautiful building back home, waiting to be demolished because it was heavily damaged in an earthquake? You build a great installation in it as an “Hommage to The Lost Spaces”. I love this idea, how awesome would it be to find works like these in/on/around the ruins of buildings all over the world… In an urban world, it would add some color. In the countryside, it would make us nostalgic for the past days in which it was thriving. And in general: remind us of the losses & sadness that comes with decay and desolation.
