Auguste (au bout de la nuit)

Maak kennis met Jens, Jonas & de 2 Celinen van Auguste au bout de la nuit; een nieuwe band ontstaan op het conservatorium van Gent.

Auguste haalt inspiratie bij artiesten als Christian Scott, Maria Neckam, Jozef Dumoulin, maar ook uit de popwereld, en tevens klassieke componisten als Messiaen en Ligeti kunnen ze smaken. Auguste brengt een mix van eigen composities, eigen-aardige interpretaties van zowel jazz nummers (Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, …) als pop-nummers (Thom Yorke, Kate Bush, …), afgewisseld met eens een vrije improvisatie.

La Concrete

Gisteren was een speciale dag. EIN-DE-LIJK zette ik mij eens met een serieuze leergierigheid aan mijn laptop en begon het internet af te zoeken naar tips & tricks om met Garageband op te nemen. Dat duurde welgeteld 20 minuten want dan had ik al lang gevonden hoe ik precies mijn mixer moet aansluiten op mijn laptop en mijn creative juices begonnen spontaan te vloeien van contentement. Het resultaat: 2 geïmproviseerde soundscapes (met foutjes enal!) van niet al te schaamtelijke kwaliteit.

Voor alle duidelijkheid: La Concrete is de naam van mijn solo project. Niks instrumenten, wie heeft dat nodig, stem is méér dan voldoende zeker indien aangevuld met wat coole effectpedalen! Maar laat ik u niet langer in spanning houden, luister maar!

What do you do when…

… you’re an artist with a vision and a background in civil engineering who learns about a beautiful building back home, waiting to be demolished because it was heavily damaged in an earthquake? You build a great installation in it as an “Hommage to The Lost Spaces”. I love this idea, how awesome would it be to find works like these in/on/around the ruins of buildings all over the world… In an urban world, it would add some color. In the countryside, it would make us nostalgic for the past days in which it was thriving. And in general: remind us of the losses & sadness that comes with decay and desolation.

Liz houdt nooit lang goede tips voor zichzelf, en aldus staat de expositie van Jessica Yatrofsky’s i<3boy in mijn agenda genoteerd!
Vanaf 8 tot 24 maart in A&Gallery (Schapenhuisstraat 17, 9000 Gent).

Knitbombing @ Gent

Knitbombing heeft zijn weg naar de kleine Gentenaars gevonden. Aan het S.M.A.K. werden bomen ingepakt met gebreide wol om ze warm te houden voor de winter. Dit in het kader van de kindertentoonstelling Raak, waarin men op zoek gaat naar het antwoord op de vraag waarom kunstenaars voor bepaalde materialen kiezen en waarmee men ook weer simpelweg de dingen wilt aanraken ipv opgesloten te zitten achter sociale media. Met onder meer werken van Panamarenko, Christophe Coppens en Maria Roosen. Loopt nog tot 8 januari en is toegankelijk voor kinderen vanaf 4 jaar of de volwassene die zich wat jonger wilt voelen!

Of het Knitbomben zo geslaagd is in dit geval laten we in het midden…

Oorbeest: the next level // Music page updated!

Het was hoog tijd om de pagina “Oorbeest” nog eens te updaten! Maar ik hield het deze keer niet enkel daarbij, maar besloot de hele lay-out aan te passen zodat de pagina veel handiger bij te houden is voor jullie. PET-flessen ge-upcycled // PET bottles upcycled

Gülnur Özdağlar, afgestudeerd architecte aan de Middle East Technical University, maakt sinds 2008 ware pareltjes uit PET-flessen. Volgens haar ligt de oplossing voor deze voorwerpen ligt in het upcyclen, eerder dan in recycleren. Door creativiteit en bewerking krijgt het voorwerp dan een grotere waarde. En dat valt in dit geval zeker niet te ontkennen!

According to her, the solution for these objects is to find in upcycling, rather than recycling. Through creativity and modification, these objects obtain a higher value. And that her upcycled objects are valuable, is something we definately can’t deny!
